Map of Bones by James Rollins

Whoa! Great book...if you like the DaVinci Code then this one is a good read too. Similar fast pace, lots of historical info, super cool because we've been to Rome ;) .

Here is the info from the back: "With the Vatican in turmoil, SIGMA Force (a secret US agency, of course) leaps into action. An elite team of scientific and Special Forces operatives under the command of Grayson Pierce and accompanied by Lieutenant Rachel Verona of Rome's carabinieri, they are pursuing a deadly mystery that weaves through sites of the Seven Wonders of the (ancient) World and ends at the doorstep of an ancient, mystical, and terrifying secret order. For there are those with dark plans for the stolen sacred remains that will alter the future of humankind...when science and religion unite to unleash a horror not seen since the beginning of time."

The description sort of leave out a few details, the whole story centers around the Magi, the priests who went to see Baby Jesus, and how they were tied to sort of an old scientific/alchemey sect that discovered the true 'manna'. It's too complicated to explain it all but I always find the hidden history interesting...like where there really just three Magi? and liquid body armor? [(developed by the US Army) why aren't our soldiers more protected then?] The Imperial Dragon Court is really made up of European aristocrats (which dates from the Middle Ages)? So much interesting information...

I sent it to you and I want to say Natalie told me she had read it when I e-mailed her about several books I was going to mail her. I liked this book too. He just had a new book come out...I need to check HP Books for others by him.

p.s. Lisa, steer clear of his "Deep Fathoms?" "Deep Sea Fathom...?" Anyway, though I LOVED Map of Bones, I read one of his previous to reading Map, something Deep Sea, or something Fathoms... HORRIBLE. I almost didn't read Map of Bones because of it... Just an FYI. Also, I've finished Next- holy cow, so good!!! Right up there with Jurassic Park and Andromeda Strain. I was nervous after Prey, thought he might be losing his touch, but nope. Next was fantastic! Thank you for sending. Letting my friend Tim read it- he's already half through, loves it. Started Labrynth this week. Slow start, but now I'm starting to really get into it. Think I was just recovering from the GRE when starting.
And I have now written the longest comment of all time.

p.s. Natalie - will keep your warning in mind. BTW, I can hardly wait for you to read the Dog in the Night book. I hope you don't hate it, because it is full of numbers, calculations, order and stucture, etc. I think this must be why I loved it, so accouting right-brained...maybe accountants are just highly functioning autistics. I found it very logical and entertaining.

Lisa-
Oh my goodness, I loved dog in the night time! I thought it was brilliant, clever, and so very endearing. Ripped my heart out from the very beginning- just amazed at the inner-workings of this child's mind. So glad you sent it. I'll send your books and something fun from my collection soon. xoxoxoxo
